Oh dear, here we go again, let's be diverse with the colourisation of a charactor in a drama series set in 16th century England. I mean we have to be proper diverse don't we brethrin? The disabled charactor is covered in the book with the man man havaing a spine deformity.
Oh dear,
I had to bale as soon as the Abbot appeared.
I was hoping this was going to be like 'The Name of the Rose' maybe it is but I couildn't get passed the distortion of our history.
Oh dear, when will makers of historical dramas realise that by including these charactors they are losing their audiences.
Oh Deaar. Oh Dear.

I saw this for the first time at the cinema in 1960 when I was 8 years old and my mother took me to see it. She loved westerns, if there was one showing at the local flea pit she would collect me from school with a packed lunch. We would sit on the balcony and feast while watching.
I was thrilled that the lead man was named Chris, which is my name as well.
I've seen it so many times I can almost recite it word perfect. It wasn't until I read the trivia here that I found out Brynner felt that McQueen constantly unstaged him. I never noticed, it wasn't until then that I even noticed he shook the shells bebfore putting them in his gun.
This is truely a magnificent film, one of, if not the best in this genre.

I saw this back in the day when it was first broadcast. I loved it then and every time I have watched my DVD since. Yes it suffers from budget restrictions that the BBC wouldn't have now. It streets ahead of the 1961 film, that one 5 star reviewer said the series was a rip off of it. Not so, it is based on the book by John Wyndham published in 1951.
Its certainlly better than the 2009 remake despite more money being thrown at it. Eddie Izzard has never been a great actor, should stick to comedy.
Its a pity we didn't see more of the lovely Emma Relph. We have seen a lot more of John Duttien I'm pleased to say.
