I really was interested in this movie...one has to be to sit through a 3 hr flick. On a positive note, the acting was stellar, especially Robert Downey and Matt Damon. However, the film jumps around all over the place in time which is not only distracting, but totally annoying.
There are also some useless scenes of fantasy and gratuitous nudity plus anachronistic language typical of Hollywood.
This is not so much of a documentary as just a long drown out story. I would have preferred a tighter written documentary in more chronological order. In short, I was somewhat disappointed in this film and feel it is over-hyped.

Positives:
This movie has a huge cast of well known stars
The situations for the most part are humorous and the troubles they get into are quite funny.
Negatives: It is hard to believe that a movie with such outstanding and experienced actors could be crass. I found the gratuitous vulgarity off-putting and in my opinion lowered what could have been a great comedy to just another trashy Hollywood B film that pushes an agenda of foul language as "entertaining" or edgy. It is neither.
I can't recommmend this film and because the newer review rules need more characters, I'll just add some filler here so that an honest review can qualify.

Fist off, I have leukemia and so many things in this movie really hit home. Andie MacDowell nailed the part as did the rest of the cast im my opinion. I have seem so many new patients going through the same things. When you get the diagnosis, it's like your brain can't cope with the flood of information for the first little while. AND people rush to give you THEIR opinion on what you should do. Plenty told me not to stop treatment, but quality of life is the issue and one thing I learned is that cancer can rob you of who you are unless you fight to be the person you have always been despite all the pressures of the disease et al. This is an important movie and from my experience, very real.
