Miniseries are definitely having a moment in the zeitgeist right now. They offer a middle ground between a long-form TV series that can span multiple seasons and a single film. In fact, one could argue that a major issue with modern miniseries is that they tend to play like 10-hour-long movies as opposed to an episodic series. Still, some manage to get it right, and there are many outstanding miniseries throughout the 2020s.

To be clear, a miniseries offers a complete story arc in a predetermined number of episodes. They don't go on for years, which can sometimes be a good thing for attracting talent.

In the early 2000s, Josh Schwartz's "The O.C." was the Og guilty pleasure show. It was basically a soap  but a heightened and well-written one, set in California's Newport Beach, where rich people were the average citizen. 

The series aired on Fox for four seasons, starting in 2003. In 2007, after 92 episodes (including a fourth and final shortened season that consisted of 16 episodes instead of the regular 24-25), Fox cancelled the series due to a steady downward trend in ratings.

In addition, a key narrative change in Season 4 served as a harbinger for the show's eventual end.

As the highest honor a television series can receive, the Emmys bestow both prestige and visibility on winning shows. Even if you've never watched them, you can probably name some of the biggest winners. "Game of Thrones" picked up an impressive 59 statues, "The West Wing" received 26 awards, and "The Sopranos" racked up 21. It's unlikely we'll forget about these TV powerhouses anytime soon.

It took some time for Eddie Murphy to forgive David Spade for his infamous “Saturday Night Live” dig.

During a recent episode of his “Fly on the Wall” podcast, Spade said it took him “25 years” to win back fellow “SNL” alum Murphy after taking a shot at his film “Vampire in Brooklyn” during a “Weekend Update” segment.
