(I'm almost done with season 2 and will stop at that point)
This thing moves along at quite a clip and keeps your interest in doing so. But... you really really REALLY have to do a lot of "suspension of disbelief" to get through this. Incredible coincidences are used instead of good script writing. Improbable decisions by most of the players are difficult to believe. I try to not expect too much realism from a series like this but goodness there have to be some rules. Plot holes, coincidences, improbable actions all make this thing pretty hard to believe and after all isn't that the point? This is not Harry Potter this is a gritty action series. It's fun to watch but impossible to take seriously.
I enjoyed this movie a lot, even with its fairly convoluted plot. I love the small town feel that was captured perfectly. The pacing was excellent, things move along at a good clip. I admit a certain amount of frustration at the main protagonist's ingrained delusional nature. The plot, though definitely complicated, was not impossibly improbable. The comparisons to Fargo are legit although to think this "style" was pioneered by Fargo would not be accurate. Perfected maybe. There is a lot of grousing about the ending which I don't agree with as real life is not so cut and dried either. If you like this type of film you will like this one.
This series had its moments. It had an interesting premise, believable characters, the potential to be a solid mystery/thriller.
But it simply did not deliver at the end, and the end is the most important part of a mystery. All of these intriguing twists and turns, all these clues from left field, all plot twists and jolts, all for naught.
I was getting wary about the time we were supposed to believe that the principals of an LLC are secret, and that someone could stage some deaths for two weeks to collect on life insurance. Pure nonsense, both.
When the end came very little was resolved, very little was explained and to be honest I felt like I had wasted 7 hours. Don't waste your time.
