I watch Kurosawa's movies because they are packed with wisdom and Madadayo didn't lack the same. I was half way through 'No regrets for our youth' when I thought of watching 'Madadayao'('coz No regrets . . didn't interest me much)so I stopped watching it and started watching 'Madadyo'. Like every Kurosawa's movie 'Madadayo' delivered wisdom wittily. But I slowly lost interest in the movie when the professor starts brooding about the missing cat which I suppose is also bringing the quality of the character down, because I believe that a professor who is highly civilised wouldn't brood for days for a missing cat and I, thinking of being one of his students who hunt for the missing cat would really have given a blow on the professor's face for having called them from their duty.

And as I said before - 'I liked it except for the missing cat part '

Honestly speaking I watch movies based on their ratings and IMDb is one site that I rely on (despite the fact that many good movies are underrated; anyway I suppose it is because movies are subjective) and if I find any movie rated 8 and above I would just die to watch them. One of that kind is Vittorio De Sica's The shoeshine and not just because it was rated 8 and above, but also for the movie being a European product.

Unlike American movies most of the European movies have close ends rather open ends which make them phenomenal. Now let me tell you why 'The shoeshine' is phenomenal. After having seen the movies Umberto D, Bicycle thief and The Shoeshine(the third movie of De Sica which I watched) it became evident to me that the narrative is spun around the characters (emphasising on the dimensions of the character)where there is a transformation of the character from being vibrant to becoming docile or vice-versa and the like. This can be encountered in all the three movies which I have stated above. Say it be the Father and the son in The Bicycle thief or the old man and the dog in Umberto D or the two boys in The shoeshine.

For movie buffs this movie is one gem to archive.

its been long since after I watched a movie of this kind. Man, I don't know whether you will laugh at the characters who does the dancing in the last part of the movie but certainly you will find yourselves blushing in happiness(even with out knowing that you are blushing).

This movie is an example for those who blame on financial aids as a limitation for making a movie.

I would just watch this movie a hundred times for that one single climax where everyone starts dancing with the real 'Little miss sunshine'. Perhaps they too turned euphoric.

watch this movie for sure. Don't ask me why, I have rated this movie 9 out of 10.
