This sci-fi from the 60s combines the horror of American sci-fi movies of invading aliens with British comedy, witful and ironic.
It is however showing its age and despite it being a rather early breakthrough sci-fi movie, it sadly is a bit too ambitious for its bugdet. The robot aliens looks ridiculous, like giant hoovers that is not particularly scary and what is up with the steam weapon, are they driving kettles? Just silly.
The aliens capture humans and enslave their minds, making them latex wearing robot men. It is humourous to watch these robot men dress up in latex and slightly whip their other human captured humans. Are we watching some BDSM cave club ?
The movie is just silly and action scenes are totall lame and non-convincing. I'd rather watch Star Trek and Captain Kirk than this mess.
And the "smart professor" played by Cushing is just stating the obvious, well except the last theory of the underground plot the aliens are planning. Now that was just dumb science.

I enjoyed watching this movie. I grew up in the 90s with impressive disaster movies such as «Dante's peak».
The effects in «Hard Rain» are also good, the rain is Biblical and is flooding a small town in US where Christian Slater is trying to move money working as a security guard driving in an armored transport from A to B without a scuba-gear.
The category of this movie is an action flick, but as many Slater movies, it is not a very brutal action flick, instead it feels a bit goofy.
Also, the choice of Morgan Freeman as a villain is a huge mistake. Instead I am waiting for him to narrate about fishes in the water or his usual documentary stuff. He is just not a convincing antagonist.
The movie gets some plot twists later on as more people get to know about the money being transported and greed makes humans do a lot of bad things.
But if you are in a mood to revisit the 90s and watch a goody and adventurous Slater action flick and felt Broken Arrow with Slater and Travolta wasnot enough, you can pack your umbrella and watch this flick!
And to quote Brandon Lee in «The Crow» from 1994 - Can't rain all the time!
