As a young boy I remember this series but only the fact that my parents seemed to be glued to the TV set watching this on Sunday nights.
When it started to be broadcast again on the excellent Talking Pictures TV I started to follow. It on a weekly basis.
To say it is well written and acted is the understatement of all time , it is superb and I Look forward to it each week.
The story is about a lorry and freight firm and the three brothers who inherit the business after the death of their father.
They also inherit his mistress and her daughter and the story follows the trials and tribulations of the business and their complicated personal lives.
Later on we get the aftermath of the share flotation and the ruthless merchant bankers who basically take over the company.
Despite all of this there are some moments of humour and I can certainly see why it gripped the nation all those years ago.
Brilliantly written and the acting is of a very high standard , a must watch even in 2025.

On the Buses was a sitcom Tv series that ran successfully from the late 1960s until the early 1970s and was so successful it spawned three big screen spin offs of which this is the third and final one.
It basically involved a bus driver called Stan who lives with his mum and sister and her miserable husband Arthur and centred around their daily struggles to make ends meet.
The basic premise revolved around the said family and Stan working as a bus driver . Set ups included winding up his sister and brother in law and the workplace at the bus depot with Stan and his mate Jack goading and bantering with their pompous but stupid inspector Blakey.
This is the third one of the three and arguably the weakest of them all.
The weak plot sees Stan and his mate sacked along with Blakey after Stan crashes the bus whilst leering at a women passenger in the depot and the resulting crash that results because of this.
Not sure why Blakey and Jack got the sack along with Stan but there you go.
They all find jobs but all rather bizarrely end up working at the same Pontins style holiday camp and the main story involves their job and the subsequent arranging for the family to have a holiday at the same place along with a daft storyline around Stan trying to get things going with a holiday maker who is bounded by her aggressive mother.
We get the same jokes around the family and Blakey and the basic premise is the same although there is far more slapstick in this one and the humour is far more bawdy than the previous two films.
A good advert for the holiday camp and this is shown in a good light other than an exploding toilet in somebody's chalet.
The biggest joke of all though is the ridiculous notion that existed throughout this drama which was Stan and Jacks dubious ability to charm any young available women half their age.
I still think that that is the main joke and one that wasn't intended to be so.
This isn't a film to take too seriously or wring your hands over and the opening exchange at the bus depot says everything about what you are about to see.
It's a snap shot of a time past and we should be perhaps be more grateful that the don't make films like this anymore.

To say this series was good is a huge understatement , a weekly anthology series featuring a story around the workers in a textile factory in northern England.
Some fine stories with a hint of mystery to keep you busy watching throughout each episode and sometimes without any real conclusion at the end but that just adds the feel of life carrying on as it does in ordinary situations.
Factories like the one depicted had started to die off decades before this series aired and it has a nostalgic feel of a workplace from the past rather than the present but again takes nothing away from this.
The individual stories are all powerful and the characters rich and interesting and ever so well written. What is most notable is the star studded cast of British acting talent.
The humour as you would expect is risqué to say the least and some of the scenes may well have offended the less broad minded and the women in the series give as good as they get in the era of the ' laddette '.
Exceptional series and well worth a watch.
