So in this newest installation of MCU, the Avengers no longer exists and the people are in need of protectors. A group of misfits, if I may say so, banded together by accident and actually managed to come together as a new solid group. Each one of them has their own baggage to deal with. And that's the real villain of this movie. So if you're expecting some guns blazing super villains, you're gonna get disappointed. Which I didn't, cause I watched this movie without any expectations. And after watching this movie, I didn't feel disappointed. Cause this is an origin story of a new band of heroes, The Thunderbolts*. With this new group of misfits, I wonder what kind of adventures will come our way.
This psychological horror plays with our fear of isolation and losing control of our own body. This movie tells us the story of a former judge who had a stroke at his own court. He was put in a nursing home temporarily until he recuperates. But alas, this place is a home of a sick old psycho who likes to bully other old people in his leisure time. The idea of this movie is intriguing and it kinda worked for a while until it's not. There's a subtle plot hole in it. Whenever the villain made a mess or disturbing the other old folks, the staff did nothing. But once the protagonist fought him, suddenly all the staff came to treat the protagonist like a mental patient. It's so obvious that the director wanted to make the audience feel the frustration. But it wasn't done elegantly that it became illogical. They should've been able to come up with something more subtle. At least in my opinion.
This action thriller movie came from the John Wick franchise. So you can see some of John's action in this movie. The plot is very simple but powerful. It's very well acted, Ana de Armas embodied Eve so well. And unlike those silly action movies with God-like female characters (they can beat trained soldiers with toothpick arms), this movie realistically portrayed a young woman's journey from zero to hero every step of her way. You can expect many action sequences with violence, blood and gore. The intense fighting scenes will keep you seated the whole time. For all John Wick's fans, put this one on your watch list.
