Peppermint is not a movie you watch expecting Oscars material (whatever that means...) it's just one of those you do to blow off steam, enjoy and entertain yourself. I always preferred Garner in the drama/action repertory, that's what she does best. And aside from a couple, I don't understand why she began wasting her talents on cheesy comedies. This time, she's back to playing a super heroine, with an abnormally high resilience to pain, but you gladly suspend disbelief and simply enjoy the ride and her good acting throughout. The other actors all played their part very well, and gave what could've been an otherwise silly action flick more substance and goals. The story conveys a good message and never leans into unwanted agendas, which has its own importance considering the time the movie was released. So if you loved the actress in Alias or Elektra even, you will definitely enjoy this.
You see their duplicate reviews, and expect something great in return, because what kind of a loser would spend so much time and energy on something that isn't worth it? Breaking Bad fans that is. Once you decide to watch the show, you can't get past how the pilot episode for such an ultra hyped series, can be so shamelessly pretentious, overrated and unoriginal. Sarcasm fall flat, the characters are obnoxious, the acting is subpar and the script is too self indulgent to make you feel invested. And the worst thing is, they already did this show when it was once called « Weeds ». So were they living under a rock then? Probably. Fact is, had they'd been a little more objective about it, the way the show flaunted its mediocrity would have been bearable. But as they keep going with how perfect they think it might be, all you see are the flaws and false pretenses its popularity relied upon over the years. Don't let yourself be fooled by it.
