The British discover that someone has perfected a way to make submarines undetectable by radar and offer this technology to the highest bidder. An international crisis erupts when a submarine carrying 16 nuclear weapons disappears during a routine voyage. The British Secret Service sends James Bond to find the submarine before the missiles are fired at the West.

This time the bad guy is Stromberg who thinks humanity is really bad and wants to create a new underwater world.

In this bond Jaws makes his entrance as a somewhat comical but memorable bad guy and that provides a few nice scenes, the action scene with the van is very funny.

Barbara Bach may play the Russian seductive counterpart of Bond and they make a nice team and of course they share the bed, but Caroline Monroe steals the show as Stromberg's beautiful sidekick.

I found it striking how the subject of divorce has been given a very dominant role in the beginning of the film, the 2 women of which the eldest is testing her younger friend on how to behave in court in her divorce case, as if it had to be a short intro promotional film to show women how to act in such a situation.

The last film with Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, who both died shortly after this film. It is a more than fine film, entertaining with a beautiful script and very solid camera work. And last but not least very good acting by Gable and Monroe. Clift and Wallach also come into their own and act at least as well. It is said that Gable's heart attack, which was fatal to him, was partly caused by the intensive filming. Which took place in the desert with a temperature of 42 degrees. Gable also insisted on doing most of the stunts himself. He was a man of 59 at the time.

A strong and certainly also a nasty film. Good roles, certainly from Olivia De Havilland and also James Caan should not be forgotten. The music score also works very well.

The film will certainly have caused some dust in its time.

It starts when De Havilland says goodbye to her son who is going away for a few days, she is partially handicapped in her hip and needs a lift because she cannot walk stairs, promptly she gets stuck in her lift due to a malfunction after which a petty thief accidentally breaks into her house, who in turn attracts serious criminals who only then become really dangerous.

Caan does well as a serious criminal and his dialogues with De Havilland are the highlight of the film, the psychological game is well put together.
