This just isn't very good. The acting is quite poor across the board and it asca drama it can't make up it's mind if it is serious or a comedy. It just doesn't work and 6 episodes is way too many. At times it is unintentionally hilarious and tries to be edgy by having a lot of swearwords.

If this gets another series I will be surprised as I would imagine a lot of viewers will have switched off before the end.

Another case of why the hell remake a classic movie. Before I go any further with this review I have a confession to make. I switched it off after an hour so is it fair to give an honest review of a movie I didn't watch till the end? I'm sorry but this was so bad that I am surprised I lasted an hour. It was so incredibly boring with far too much time spent on soppy and overdone romance. I seriously wondered when anything was going to happen.

The acting? Well, Bill Skarsgard is average but his love interest played by FKA Twigs is unbelievably bad. She talks like she is half asleep and is just laughably poor. So, to sum up, this remake is crap.

I didn't really know what to expect from this drama and I was impressed. Each episode was filmed in one take and while this didn't always work it was clever and very effectively done. I felt some scenes did drag on a bit because of this but overall it most definitely worked. The story is well told from every side and the direction is excellent.

Then there is the acting which by and large is fabulous. Stephen Graham simply has to be one of the best actor's around and he is superb here. Owen Cooper as the boy is tremendous also and Ashley Walters is impressive. In fairness all of the cast are at the top of their game here in a drama that hits hard and is a terrific tribute to British talent.
