I won't spoil anything to anyone who wants to watch it but I will say that the first season is fantastic and definitely worth watching! I was hooked from the first episode. My 9/10 rating is mostly based on how I feel about the first season.
As for the second season, usually I'm not one to complain that the second season isn't as good as the first because when the first season is that good I know people have high expectations for the following season. Unfortunately I have to agree that the second season isn't as good. There's definitely a drop in quality. The characters are less interesting and it has a Hollywood style feel to it in a way that it is way over the top (especially the ending). With that said I still think it is worth watching because we learn a lot about Reacher's past.
The third season is definitely better than the second season, even though it's still not quite as good as the first. I really did enjoyed most of it (except for the last episode that wasn't the best). But again, still worth watching if you ask me.
My rating for each season is: First season - 9/10 Second season - 7/10 Third season 8/10
I'm looking forward to watching the fourth season. My recommendations to whoever is creating this show is to put their emphasis on three things:
1. Three dimensional characters with interesting backgrounds stories - the cast is doing a good job but the viewers really need to feel their pain so that we can root for them and get invested in their survival and success. Just to give an example from the third season - I really felt Reacher's pain over what happened to Kohl. I was also very interested in what would be the ending of Richard and his father while I didn't really care about Theresa despite the fact that she was mentioned a lot.
2. Better dialogue and emphasis on the smaller stories. The dialogue in the first season was excellent and I really loved all the small moments that we watched Reacher teaching the bad guys their lessons. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the major fight scenes with the villains. I'm talking about the more normal people. Things like Reacher and the dog (and his owner) in the first season or Reacher and Richard's bullies on the third.
3. Keep the fight scenes real - while we all know that the fight scenes are exactly realistic, there's no need to go over the top. One can only suspend their disbelief to a certain degree. Watching Reacher overpowering 6-10 people is enough. We get that he's big and strong and it is fun to watch him beat the crap out of the bad guys but he's not Superman so when you take it too far (like the scene with the stretcher in the helicopter at the end of season two or the fight scenes with Paulie at the end of the third season) it really spoils all the fun.
Also, I'd love to see more passionate scenes between Reacher and his female partner. The actor is obviously a very good looking guy and when you start a sexy scene and cut it in an instant it feels very anticlimactic. Turn the heat up a notch please.
So to sum up, I definitely recommend watching this show and I'm looking forward to the fourth season being just as good as the first. Fingers crossed!
