This film had potential to be groundbreaking and fun, but blew it near the end. It's runtime is too much, and even then it's edited from it original 3 hour runtime. Wicker Man has a similar feel to it, but has much better actors involved and a better director. Watch that instead. The pacing is a very slow burn and the payoff isn't as good as most people made it out to be. Even the ending is lifted from Wicker Man. However, that film's involvement were al-stars Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Britt Ecklund and Ingrid Pitt. Only Florence Pugh has enough talent to carry most of the film, but she was stretched out thin.
Not since Psycho has a Hitchcock film remake been so predictable and dull. This is a shameful remake of his superior Strangers On A Train, with gender swapping and a modern setting. Didn't work in many ways, but just shows you don't touch an artist's work. The actors aren't horrible as to compare them to Troma or Full Moon staples, but the writing was off and the direction was not done well. Maybe the budget was limited or production interfered one too many times as was (and in most cases today still is) the problem. I know that a film has to change things up to keep the audience guessing and interested, but I feel that it just failed to come across as interesting or fresh.
Like I started to say, it's not the original show...and that's okay. It would never live up to status of the original show. New Class didn't. College Years didn't. It's a new show with new characters. Times have changed and so have people.
