Mike Lombardo's I'm Dreaming of A White Doomsday has the potential to be polarizing. Like many horror films released in the past 5 years, it straddles the line between horror and drama constantly and there might be too little horror for the horror fans and too much horror for the drama fans, but that doesn't change the fact that Lombardo should be applauded for trying something different and succeeding.
White Doomsday is about a couple and their young son who have survived a catastrophic apocalypse by staying in an underground bunker. Running low on food, the father must go out and try to search for food. When he doesn't return, it's up to the mother to bring food back for herself and her child, but all sorts of dangers lurk outside the bunker.
Especially considering the low budget, the effects and production design are beyond outstanding with a great attention to detail and the film is beautifully shot. All the actors are great, including the child actor (and anyone who's seen many indie films will know how hard it is to find a child actor whose head you don't want to twist off).
White Doomsday might be best for more patient viewers interested in slow burn horror, but those of us who enjoy that style of horror will really like it.

Party Night isn't a lofty think piece or character drama (and I don't think the filmmakers went into it with that mentality), but it's quick and to the point and doesn't overstay its welcome. Besides that, there are some terrific special effects and the cast isn't full of the usual indie horror movie mouth breathers who appeared to have been hired from a local strip club instead of a traditional casting call.
For a first time film, it certainly has flaws which one could nitpick if they wanted, but the film has a pretty infectious sense of fun that I've personally missed from the genre. Treat it as if it were just a random slasher movie you'd rent in the 90's because the cover art looked cool and you won't be disappointed. It's simple, to the point, and entertaining enough to deem worthy of checking out.
