After too many unfunny seasons I thought I'd tune in to S14 to see the latest. I discovered that it's moved forward another six years and the kids, thankfully, have departed the series and are at university. I've since read that this is the first series without any of the other regulars; Anna, Toby and both of Lucy's parents. Back to this episode and sadly no improvement from the recent series. Too many unfunny quick fire jokes from Lee (whose acting somehow still hasn't improved) and continual contempt from Lucy. I cannot believe that not only did the BBC renew it for this season but they've already renewed for S15 in 2026.
A bizarre episode in which there are a few near to the knuckle race jokes (they're not racist) but where all of the animation of the Chinese characters is clearly deliberately animated not to look that way (hint; eyes.) also, they all have American accents. Maybe there's a double sided joke that I've missed but it just seemed weird to me. Some humorous moments and Chris is definitely playing a bigger part in this series which is good but possibly at the expense of Brian which is not so good. I've looked and found that the network has already lined up seasons as far as 27. I'm not sure how they're going to do this as it sadly seems to be running out of steam. I still love MacFarlane but maybe it's nearly time to put FG to bed.
For me, this is a way to pass an idle hour or so with a couple of daft storylines. I like the premise of a guy who's been dumped upon in most aspects of his life and even that he turns to crime against his rich friends and neighbours but the big question for me is, do none of these rich people have even doorbell cameras never mind property CCTV? It seems odd that he gets into all of these houses (early on it's explained that they feel so secure that they leave doors unlocked) but there's not a single camera to record any of his misdemeanours. Decent cast, nobody sparkles but it plods on well enough.
