I blame the one star off on the netizens that criticized 16 episode kdramas to the point where we are now in this 12 episodes kdramas era. This 12 episode cohort is lacking nuance and storytelling, and the last 4 episodes are getting done so dirty. Where is the longing for 3 episodes and eventual get together in episode 14 or 15! Where is the internal conflict! It feels like they shortened kdramas by taking out the most interesting episodes and keeping the over the top falling action where someone has an accident or is fired from their job and all we see now is external conflict. I was hoping the last few episodes were gonna blow me away just like the first 9 episodes did but NO! Regardless, I am just being picky and I still love everything up to 9 so majority wins.
Just okay really. Simone was wonderful and she has so much potential to be a romcom diva if given a lead she can actually build with. I think this felt more of a family comedy, like Meet the Fockers or than kind of "haha isn't my kooky weirdo family so funny to laugh at" than romantic comedy. The one guy she did have chemistry with was totally dismissed off jump when maybe they could've played with the idea of a love triangle more. I saw a lot of potential but unfortunately so many missed opportunities for the sake of an Adam Sandleresque laugh. Why so many random snippets of her meeting people to laugh at? The pundit, the rich date guy, the flat earther? Probably more too. It just all seems so unnecessary and like a distraction from what should have been her self development and that of her relationships.
If you want a terminally ill storyline with a jaded, rude, erratic male read just go watch Uncontrollably Fond. Bae Suzy character is lovable, and I actually cried in the end. I couldn't get into the story, and the more I think about it it's because I hated the lead character. They wrote him so unlikeable in my opinion, and yes his life was tragic and what not but still I think only the pull of Woo Do Hwan made me hit play, and the second lead actor made me stay. None of the decisions done by the main lead made sense (which I guess is the point). I was rooting for the second lead and his happiness from episode 2 on. He was such a delight and showed so much emotional growth that paid off at the end for him. Anyways, i still don't get the hype about this show.
