It's not completely terrible. Statham is, well, Statham. And the action is watchable, but in just about every other way, this is a stinking pile of, well, you get the idea.
I've seen several of the actors in other circumstances, so I know they can act, but here, they don't. It's as if the director decided that since Statham is so successful with monotone understatement, he'd make everybody else do it too! It's awful!
And the whole premise the whole film is built on, is so absolutely ridiculous in so many ways that the only reason I can imagine that anybody manages to suspend disbelief long enough to go along for the ride is that it's dropped into the viewer's lap (like the aforementioned stinking pile) before they've had a chance to get their bearings, and by the time they have enough information to understand how nonsensical it is, it's all 'ancient history'.
In what universe is it conceivable that the "Boss"(!) of an organization gets pulled in from his time off with his kid, to sub for a late employee on an operation that his organization has been working on for MONTHS (that he somehow knows nothing about!), working with people nobody in his organization knows anything about (despite having worked FOR MONTHS with them to set it up)??? Huh??
And then this crucial job that he steps in to do is OBVIOUSLY totally unnecessary! He's called in (with his kid) to report whether a truck turns left or right, but the whole operation is set up for the truck taking a right. The only contingency plan if it went left (did I mention after MONTHS of planning?!) is to pack up and go home and maybe try again another time. And the cherry on top is that these guys they're working with are THEMSELVES in sight of where the truck makes the turn!!! It all happens within about a block of the intersection and if the truck had gone the other way, they would have SEEN IT THEMSELVES, without the Boss, without the kid and without "months of preparation".
Going along with the whole premise driving the entire movie requires turning your brain into a pretzel, or having the memory of a goldfish, or both!
I was generous to give it a four, but then, Statham is Statham...

I came to Kandahar without many expectations, and maybe that is why I liked it so much more than many of the other reviews on here. In my opinion it is a very good, solid action picture, that isn't just fun to watch, but also engages you on a personal level.
Where so many movies of this type are populated with caricatures and stereotypes, with repulsive 2D "bad guys" and selfless heroes, in this film, yes, the good guy is pretty damn good, but just about all the significant characters are also sympathetic in their own ways, even when they are doing their best to track down and kill the hero(es).
It's not totally without flaws. It does seem that the Butler character should have done a LITTLE more to obscure his identity than to just wear local clothes, and the music gets a little too lofty and disengaged at times, but the acting and production values are excellent, and getting to see so many people's perspectives and motivations in conflict, more than makes up for the effort it takes to follow them.
It has a DEPTH that makes the reviews calling it "shallow" into a condemnation of the reviewers ability to absorb what they saw, more than of the movie.

The plot isn't too bad. The action isn't bad, but several of the actors playing some of the central characters are AWFUL.
Most of the actors aren't terrible. The leads are okay and the actors playing the killers and the Secret Service agents aren't bad. Ironically, some of the actors playing the smallest roles were actually quite good! The actress playing "Lorna" was excellent for all three minutes she was on screen and Peter's godfather "Jim" was also great for his minute, but the actor playing one of the most central characters, the president's Chief of Staff, was a struggle to endure for her interminable and recurring scenes, and the President and the Vice President weren't too good either. Their acting by itself removed four stars from my rating of the show.
