I remember talking to some soldiers back in 2009 and all they wanted was to get the call up to go to Afghanistan. And I could never understand that. If I was in the army I would pray every day NOT to get the call-up. That's probably why I wouldn't have made a very good soldier. It clearly takes a very particular type of person to be able to do, and even want, these things.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with 'Warfare' but I didn't really expect the entire movie to be based around one ill-fated mission. It actually worked for the film a lot better than I expected it to at first. The pacing was great and there was a lot of tension. You never knew what was around the corner for the entire run time. It's also quite brutal at times, though nothing you should've expect from basically any war movie.
As good as it was to watch, it did feel a little hollow. I can't really imagine this movie sticking with me for that reason. 7/10.

It took me a little while to understand exactly the type of movie that 'About Time' was. Initially I thought it was your standard love story with a time travel twist. There would be romance and there would be complications. Then as the film went along I realised that this cheat code he has was making any complications basically irrelevant. It wasn't until I realised that this was more of an idealistic fairytale that I could sit back and fully enjoy it.
And from that point onward I was in heaven watching this movie. It's done very well. The characters are amazing and wonderful people that are great to spend time with. The dialogue is funny and thoughtful and sometimes heart-breaking. And the love story is authentic and so very easy to root for.
I had a feeling the movie was going to sock me in the mouth at some point, but I wasn't sure exactly how. When it came around I truly hadn't seen it coming at all, but it hit me like a truck. A truly wonderful movie scene I won't soon forget. This was a great film. 9/10.

'Boy Kills World' didn't sound like my kind of movie at all. But the concept of H. Jon Benjamin (one of my favourite voice actors) narrating the inner monologue of the main character was enough to give me hope. It was to be false hope however, I'm sad to say. This movie was not very enjoyable at all.
The movie never picks a lane. It's too light-hearted for the revenge element to actually have any impact. And it's too serious to get many laughs. It finds itself in this horrible middle ground that no movie would ever desire to be in.
And it ends up making the whole thing very dull. I wasn't invested at all. It doesn't help either that the strongest actor in the film, Jessica Rothe, has a helmet on for most of the film. 4/10.
