After wasting over an hour of my life on this (yep my own fault entirely) I felt compelled to write a review to save others doing the same. This is without doubt one of the worst movies I've watched in a very very long time. It really is genuinely, absolutely dreadful, with no redeeming features whatsoever. The acting is simply awful - some of the worst I've witnessed in ages, the plot is nonsense, the "make-up effects" are laughable and the whole thing reeks of amateur trash. Put these things all together and you've got yourself an absolute stinker, and that is exactly what this is. Don't waste your time on it, trust me, you'll regret it.
I quite enjoyed the first one. It was a little bit different and relatively creepy. So I was suckered in to going to see the 2nd. BIG mistake! Playing on the popularity of the first, they obviously decided to churn this one out to line their pockets even more. It's dull, boring, tedious and silly, with much of the same stuff going on as in the first. The "plot" is paper thin and clearly something someone made up as an afterthought and tacked on to the original. It was probably developed and completed in a week or two - it shows. The only people in the audience who enjoyed this was a group of girls aged around 13 years old. Enough said - avoid!
It isn't very often that a film so brutal yet touching comes along. Set in Harlem, Precious tells the story of a young girl who leads a very troubled and dark life. I won't spoil it for you, but trust me, it's brutal and heartbreaking. The acting is superb, and without wishing to sound condescending, surprisingly (for me) Mariah Carey also gives a sterling performance. The two main characters (Precious, played by Gabourey Sidibeare and Mo'Nique as her mother) are the real stars, with performances so believable you will want to cry for one, and seriously injure the other. A real triumph. Thank goodness this is not based on a true story. Sadly, there will be many actual events like this taking place right now. Tragic. Fortunately there is light within this film and it ultimately shines through.
