I rarely say this, but honestly, I despise this movie. It took everything I love about Persuasion, a character-driven romance about growth and second chances, and turned it into a farce of a "romcom".
Anne (who reminded me of a clumsier version of wise-cracking Cher from Clueless) and Wentworth (weirdly scruffy and completely unlikeable) are unrecognisable and have little chemistry, giving me no reason to root for them. There's also waaaay too much modern humour verging on slapstick that caused me to fast-forward several times. As a result, the few moments that were superficially faithful to the book didn't fit the tone nor the characters of this changeling of a film.
Altogether, they should have just set the movie in modern times, considering how little care they took to be historically accurate (most obviously in the language but also hair and make-up).
In short: even if this hadn't been a horrible adaptation of one of my favourite books, I still wouldn't have enjoyed this movie.

Most warriors in history might have been men - but there were also women, and more of them than one would have thought. I really enjoyed this carefully researched series, using archeological evidence and dramatised scenes to tell the stories of some of these warrior women. For example, where might the legends of the Amazons have come from? And did you know there were real female warriors that the Dora Milaje in Marvel's Black Panther were based on? (If you want to know more about them, btw, there's also a documentary with Lupita Nyongo.)
Also, although it says here on imdb that there are 3 episodes, I found a fourth one about Vikings - and since the opening credits show images of what seem to be Japanese warriors, I'm wondering if the series is still ongoing. I definitely hope so!
