It might just be the fact that there were too many characters involved in this movie to do any of them justice. Somehow, this film seemed to both drag in places and gloss-over important story points, at the same time.
A bit more snappy banter between the leads wouldn't have hurt. They needed a better-developed story, even if that meant sacrificing one or more of the other sisters' stories.
The real standout performance here turned out to be from Trevor Donovan. I've seen him in other movies, but I believe this is the first time I've really noticed him as an actor. He did a great job here. Just wish the movie itself was better.

I really liked this one. It is messy in places, but Canning and Rosner make it work. It was funny and sweet, and you're kept wondering where it is going, much of the time.
Also, the woman who plays Matilda, the impossibly-talented and selfless girlfriend, was kind of a discovery. I wouldn't mind seeing her in future GAF films.
Full disclosure: The set-up for this film was so confusing, we had to re-watch the first 20 minutes. Why were the main character's ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend at her house, getting fawned-over by her own family? If it was a ski lodge, why was her mother in the kitchen, burning gingerbread men? These questions do get answered, but it's not immediately clear that they are in a multi-family rented cabin.

I don't know what I was expecting going into this film, and I almost bypassed it, due to the lackluster ads I'd seen. But this turned out to be far and away the best Hallmark film I've seen this year. It's a little short on the "Christmas" part of the equation, and the ending is a little on the messy side, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable movie on many different levels. Don't miss this one!
I recommend Biltmore Christmas to anyone who is a little burned-out on "the Hallmark formula", no matter how much you love the usual Hallmark Christmas offerings. Set design, production, the acting gets a special shout-out here, and a few surprise guest appearances really keep you glued to the screen. I'm a sucker for a good time-bending story, and this one is good.
On another note, there was an ad during the film that showed one of the actresses pulling off a flawless Katherine Hepburn impression, and that may have been my favorite part of the experience, watching this the first time, so shout out to her.
