I'm pleased to note that most of the comments on this site are for a positive film-as I enjoyed it immensely. I grew up around Fireball XL5, Stingray and Thunderbirds and although I took both my daughters along for the ride (and a little back-up!) at the ripe old age of 47 was thrilled to see the ships larger than life on screen, the Thunderbird 2 launch and the space scenes involving 3 & 5 were extremely well produced. Lets remember that Thunderbirds was made originally for kids and although it's a case of: Kids meet bad guys, kids get caught by bad guys, kids get away and save the day; It's a fun movie, for all the simpering die hards out there-hey! take a couple of reality check pills-there's never going to be a film made the way they want, it just wouldn't work! Rating 8 out of 10
This is one film that doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you. All the main characters are having fun in this film especially Chris Kattan and David Chappelle they should make a cop buddy movie together! The colours and sets are well done with the action scenes involving a little wire-fu but at least no more matrix rip off special effects. Turn up the movie for the great soundtrack and enjoy. 6 out of 10.
This was the show that sparked my interest in Sci-Fi way back in 1962, being only five the opening shot of Steve and Venus flying past the fin of the huge spaceship Fireball XL5 filled me with wonder!
Although this was a series for it's time it was one of the first to depict a space fleet of patrol ships monitoring our quadrant of space, notably used in Star Trek a few years later. The characters from the very first episode were amazingly fleshed out by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, only to be further developed by the talents of the other scriptwriters resulting in a fine continuity right up the last episode, unheard of in those days. Stories involved time travel, space pirates and of course earth domination, which had the puppets smoking, shaving, being tied up and the odd reference to child psychology! -Very adult for a child's T.V. series.
My favourite episodes - A day in the life of a space general, Space Magnet & 1875 In all, superb sixties Sci Fi fun.
