Though it was released in 2014, today is Oct 23, 2024, & I just discovered this movie. I heard a different version of Bobby "Blue" Bland's Ain't No Sunshine on the radio today; Shazam told me it was from this soundtrack. I immediately searched IMDB & discovered it was available through Freevee.
From the very 1st minute, I was hooked. To see some of the legends ply their craft again was special. The fact that this project was a fusion of old & new made it even more incredible.
I called it a rollercoaster because I felt so many emotions watching & listening. I grew up in Mississippi in the 1960s - 70s & experienced some of the good & bad associated w/those times. But make no mistake, this project filled me w/happiness. I only wish it had happened before we lost BB & others.
Thank you to the producers & everyone responsible for bringing this history lesson through music to life. Long live the Blues in general, & the Mississippi & Memphis Sound specifically.

I remember when Playmakers aired; for me, it was must see programming. Every episode was riveting; I found myself wanting each episode to continue. The stories were so believable-in fact, I'm sure some were based on actual events. I was mad when the series was abruptly cancelled.
Rumor has it the NFL put pressure on ESPN to drop the show because it put a bad light on the league. As ESPN wanted to broadcast NFL games, it seems they may have caved to said pressure. Yet, I submit that since so many of the stories actually closely resembled known events in the NFL, ESPN did nothing more that put a mirror up to the league. I've always thought it was a weak move by the league, & it robbed us of great entertainment..

In the 60s & 70s, I grew up on Peanuts. I loved all the cartoons, ready the daily comic strips, & had a hard-copy set of Peanuts books. Generally, I don't like remakes, especially ones made w/CGI-I like the quirkiness of older videos. But, I'm happy w/this effort. The voices that mattered to me (Charlie, Lucy, Linus & Snoopy) were excellently done. The best compliment I can give is that watching this reminded me of how I felt as a kid. Good job!
