Maybe because this film was a Syfy offering, I went in with the illusion that there was going to be something of a tack toward sci-fi at some point. And maybe that's what it needed, because while it teased that, it never truly went there, and stayed focused on a mental illness arc that left everything unresolved when the credits rolled. In the final moment it teased something more and then ended abruptly, leaving me/us wondering. Didn't care for that.
So, WAS it wholly mental illness or was it potentially supernatural? Emerging from the shelter after the storm, what were we expecting? When we get what we get, we seem to have our answer... but then the last moments flush our resolution and send us back to wondering. We're left with a slow-moving film that ultimately doesn't fulfill us. The acting was solid, but in the end, the story needed to decide what it was. Too many great reviews for a film that leaves us hanging too much in the end...

I like a good adventure movie... this isn't quite one, but it tries hard to be. There's a lot of action for those who need it, and a treasure hunt to drive the action... but it doesn't have the power and appeal of the standouts in the genre, even as it blatantly "borrows" from them. Maybe it's because the journey is too farfetched, or maybe it's because we've seen most of this done before... and better.
I like and respect both leads, but their chemistry is lacking. Their "conflicted over Daddy" backstory is overdone and gets a bit too sappy... hopefully there's an 11 year old dragged along to save the day (yeesh!).
It's entertaining but absurd. Decent effects but, no pun intended, the plot doesn't hold water...

Okay, I've been watching Seth Rogan's "The Studio" and in one episode (with an Owen Kline cameo), they called "Funny Pages" one of the best movies of 2022. So I watched it, just because of that. Ouch!
Not funny, major cringe, mostly lame story, and a terrible ending. (And certainly NOT a kind view of NJ people, the vast majority of whom are portrayed unflatteringly). I'm not a comics guy, but I appreciate the subculture of fans... but even they are shown in an unattractive light. The movie goes nowhere, unless awkward moment to cringe moment counts...
It's "dark humor" that misses, doesn't tell anywhere NEAR a complete story, and leaves an audience wondering "wait, what happens next?" There's really no resolution whatsoever, so what was the point?? Unlikable characters, absurd situations... how is this kid paying for rent and car insurance when he has to steal from his Mom for a cartooning lesson? And again, a movie with high critical praise from the Metacritic "experts." I just don't get it. Cant recommend this to anyone, sorry...
