I actually like this film. It's simple, but in a good way. The straightforward plot makes it easy to follow and keeps things focused, without adding too much unnecessary drama or dragging things out. It delivers what it wants to say in a clean and direct way, which I really appreciate. But there's one scene that kind of bothered me-there's a moment where Bagas is shown praying during Dhuhr, and something about how it was presented felt off. I won't go too deep into it, but it did raise some concerns, especially since the movie touches heavily on religious topics. When a film dives into faith and spirituality, those small details really matter.
Sumala may not bring a completely new or groundbreaking concept to the table, but it's still a very engaging watch. From the start, it knows exactly how to pull the audience in and keep the tension steady throughout. Lately, there's been a wave of Indonesian horror movies diving into the origins of different ghosts and spirits, and while that trend is getting a bit crowded, Sumala manages to stand out. It doesn't feel repetitive or dull like some others. The storytelling is tight, the atmosphere is creepy in the best way, and the emotional side of the story gives it more depth. It's clear that the filmmakers cared about the details, and that makes a big difference.
Tbh, this movie has such a vibe. From the very beginning, the buildup pulls you in and doesn't let go. Every scene feels important, and the pacing is just right-not too slow, not too fast. What I really liked is how each character actually feels like they matter. No one's just standing around to fill space; everyone has a purpose and adds something to the story. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and honestly kind of beautiful. Visually, it's stunning. And don't even get me started on the music-it's perfect. The soundtrack adds this gothic, emotional layer that makes everything feel deeper and more intense. It's one of those films where the sound and visuals just work so well together. If you're even slightly into vampire movies, this one should be on your list. It nails the vibe, the story, and the style. Honestly, it might be one of the best in the genre.
