I grew up with comics when they were original stories cranked out one after another. Looking back, there was a high standard in the comic book world regarding superheroes, storylines & art and as such gave us the golden age of comics. In that world & at that time, you grew up with the adventures found in comics because they were easy to follow, colorful & 10 cents? Many forget the risky switch regarding Superman when he went fro being able to leap tall buildings in a single bound to being able to float in space, hold that position & even fight in mid-air something that is not possible even in comic book land unless we all agree that anything goes. Now, as to this version. Its all over the place with what the makes of this move thought movie-goers would like. If one pauses for just a moment, it appears these superheroes have nothing better to do between fighting larger than life, the earth is in danger type villains. Even their love-lives smack of ridiculous as what is portrayed as Superman acts more like Supermale. It appears having a normal life has to be hum-drum & is presented as such. But if one is to accept the core premise of being a superheroe & being able to live a remarkable life, then all should rise to those levels & not having relationship spats. I like DC, comics, Superheroe movies & the like, but we are running out of plausible, believable storylines about a extra-ordinary lifeform anyone would love to be. SUPERMAN, you bet. SUPER STRETCH no!
Outstanding introduction to another cultures story-telling acted out perfectly in these tales of a blind man, who is highly sword skilled, making the life rounds. Human nature is a great study here. People who need help, saving, another chance & just plain killing get floor time by Zatoichi. Commeppance is a common theme in these little episodes & the showings come in at near 90 minutes. This allows for intimacy, connection & for the plot to gel & it does nicely. Samurai are a class of people who take up a high standard of code living & can be virtious or rogue in their nature. Also, greed examples come across well for teaching lessons as well as tragedy, human slavery & loss. These are reoccuring themes that don't disappoint. When this full run of 25 episodes ends, & none of it soon, you will feel the loss that's how well done it is. I am on my second watching after waiting a year. On his sword skills, there are scenes where it moves so fast that you only see the results, not the swordplay. He can kill one on one or by tens of tens or more. Also amusing is his gambling skills & not to leave out, this guy loves to eat by stuffing his face, filling his mouth & near choking himself until a cough or sip of tea rescues. For those that like eating gusto, enjoy. If you watch, happy 4 U.
When I saw 3-star rating IMDB, I decided to give this movie a look-see. Started out with an interesting premise & does manage to hold your attention which is a sign of a good script, acting & directing. All was well until the chase scene which defied reality, went on too long & did something I thought was out of character for Ethan Hunt aka Tom Cruise. The head of the IMF force was acting corny, silly & being outsmarted by his fellow actors (more than one & once) & where they should have prevailed, we see Ethan character managing the "impossible" in eluding & invading essentially turning invisible to escape the onscreen pursuits. I kept thinking about if they did this with 007-Bond character & movies & how it would flop. Respect for the 00 or double O has to be maintained as he lives life & death at times. In M. I., they prolong the joking segments in addition to letting it take place to begin with. This movie should be given a sub-heading tag of comedy becasue it delves into it. The Gray Man & Extraction movie stars don't have time to fool around or joke but they do have time to kick your butt when called upon. If the Mission is Impossible, lets keep it on the edge of impossibility & not deviate. One last thing, this putting on a mask & becoming another person stretches the concpet a little too far. There is no such mask that can perfectly duplicate another persons face but in this movie as with others, you cannot tell the imposter from the real guy. Sounds like a magic show so add that tag to the movie description RATING: Silly at times & fantasy for magic sequences. C'mon Tom, you got money, power, fame & expereince. Use that to go deeper into the entertainment world not so much for money but to create comeback, memorable, must see this movie again experiences.
