Not every film intentionally sets out to be Oscar-worthy. Sometimes you make a film to showcase Brian Cox as something other than Logan Roy, and whether that was the intent or not, he was hilarious and crude and kind, and I really enjoyed it! Love seeing Edie Falco again, LOVE Lisa Kudrow and her quippy one liners, LOOOOVE Parker Posey, she can't do anything wrong, in my opinion. It's just a mindless horror comedy (though more
Comedy and less horror), and that's honestly what we all need right now. I probably wouldn't set out to watch it again, but I'm definitely glad I decided to watch it today!
The first thing you have to remember is that Jerry Seinfeld LOVES cereal. At least, his "Seinfeld" character Jerry does. So, seeing him head up a film ABOUT cereal is what will draw the curiosity of any fan of the show. Then there's the cast. It's pretty clear that Jerry banded his buddies together to join forces in what is clearly just good, clean, nostalgic fun...with a little roasting of all of the major cereal giants, in addition to some random popular additions of the time: Chef Boyardee, Jack LaLanne, Carvel. If you go into it knowing that, you'll enjoy it for what it is. It isn't shooting for any awards. It's just really entertaining to see people like Peter Dinklage as Harry Friendly, the CEO of Friendly Farms milk company, James Marsden as Jack LaLanne, Dan Levy as Andy Warhol, and Jon Hamm and John Slattery reprising their Mad Men counterparts, Don Draper and Roger Sterling. Sit down with your favorite bowl of cereal, or a Pop Tart, and enjoy some lighthearted comedy!
