The premise wasn't anything new, but I wasn't looking for any ground breaking originality. It had a story, so simply tell it in an interesting and entertaining way, and I would've been happy. And, there were definitely good bits to it! So, it could have easily been a fine, enjoyable horror flick, but certain unnecessities like having an internal "I've had enough, so I'm gonna be courageous, ganbarimasu" emotion doesn't just give you an extra boost of power/energy, turning you into a superhero, and allowing you to overcome any obstacle infront of you. Yes, I've heard of adrenaline, but it shouldn't take long to kick in, certainly not a "John Snow standing in the battlefield" moment to doubt yourself, then suddenly thinking of your friends generates the super soldier serum within you" long.

I'm not knocking the story, premise, concept, production and etc... I've finished both seasons. And it has a lot of qualities that could've made it potentially good.

Some of the action sequences were actually pretty decent. Mix that with some of the games they played, it could have been quite entertaining.

The first thing that destroyed this series - it's dialogue. Stop talking!!! Yap, yap, yap. Everytime there is a game, the explanation took sooooo long. Then whenever anything drastic happens, somebody would blabb on and on and on and on...

Second, I don't expect the protagonist to be a super hero. But he is just the most pathetically written lead you could ever imagine. Give some of them long, boring, meaningless, never ending monologues to him, there you go - most unlikable character you can ever imagination.

There seems to be a lot positive reviews about this series, and it rightfully deserves them. Production value-wise, it certainly is a treat. Overall, I enjoyed the show, but it is not exactly action paced, and definately not something that would keep you on the edge of your seat. Cinematography is beautiful, storytelling is great, and drama is solid. It should be a fun show for all ages.
