  • Rudra: A Misguided Attempt at an Assamese Spy Thriller

My expectations for "Rudra" were, unfortunately, not met. This film largely falls flat, making one wonder about the creative decisions behind it. The attempt to craft an Assamese spy thriller feels incredibly misguided and, ultimately, fails to deliver.

Rabi Sharma's portrayal, particularly with the beard, unfortunately veers into caricature rather than embodying a convincing espionage figure. The terrorist storyline is, without a doubt, the weakest element of the movie, lacking any genuine tension or credibility. This kind of filmmaking risks alienating audiences who are looking for quality regional cinema.

The first half is particularly challenging to sit through, struggling with pacing and plot development. The only saving grace, and a stark contrast to the rest of the film, is the segment depicting the village story. During this period, the movie finds some semblance of warmth and genuine connection, and both Rabi Sharma and the lead actress shine in these more grounded roles.

It's clear that the Assamese film industry has a significant need for strong screenplay writers and competent directors. Without fresh perspectives and skilled storytelling, the industry risks another significant setback. "Rudra" serves as a disappointing example of what happens when ambition isn't matched by execution.

  • An Absolute Masterclass in Sports Drama! (With Stellar Cinematography & Music!)

Having just experienced "F1: The Movie," I can confidently say this film is an absolute triumph. While I initially approached it with some reservation, joining 5 minutes late after an Assamese movie ("Rudra" - also featuring Ravi Sharma), the first 15 minutes seemed to confirm my fear of a slow burn. However, from that point on, this movie absolutely ignited!

This isn't just a sports drama; it's a profound exploration of rage, ego, the power of a second chance, the complexities of good versus bad character, the essence of teamwork, the weight of maintaining a legacy, and the fervent dream of achieving the pinnacle of a sport for the very first time. It encapsulates the raw, unadulterated emotions of winning and losing, showcasing how sometimes, a loss can be the most beneficial outcome. It truly captures that visceral, real sports feeling. The brilliant banter and chemistry between the two main characters, cleverly fueled by their age difference, add another layer of enjoyment.

The cinematography in this film is absolutely top-notch, immersing you in every thrilling moment, and the music perfectly complements the emotional beats and high-octane action.

Overall, "F1: The Movie" is simply outstanding. It's the kind of film that lingers long after the credits roll, its narrative echoing in your mind. While the film itself isn't about a local sport, it strongly inspired me to envision a similar powerful story centered around a grassroots competition like the Coochbehar Trophy - a sport that feels authentic and pure, unlike the often-scripted feel of something like the IPL. This movie not only inspires you to write a review but also sparks the creative fire for a screenplay of your own. The film is peppered with short, impactful dialogues that are pivotal to its emotional punch.

From a technical standpoint, the screenplay is a masterclass. It flawlessly employs the 6-Act structure, meticulously charting the hero's journey, both inner and outer. The turning points are perfectly timed, creating a gripping and cohesive narrative. For anyone aspiring to learn screenplay writing, this movie is an invaluable resource and one of the best films to study.

"F1: The Movie" is a must-see for anyone who appreciates compelling storytelling, authentic emotion, and the thrilling world of sports. Highly recommended!

  • Could have been better. An opportunity missed.

Bhaimon Da is a biographical film that chronicles the life of the legendary filmmaker Munin Baruah. The narrative begins with his youth and progresses through various stages of his life until his final days. While the film ambitiously attempts to cover his entire life, this broad scope leads to a disjointed storyline with several unnecessary scenes that could have been omitted for a more focused narrative.

The editing lacks finesse, and the screenplay could have benefited from tighter structuring. The film gains momentum with the entry of Zubeen Garg, adding some much-needed energy. However, the humor is sparse, and the story often jumps between events without clear transitions.

A more effective approach might have been to concentrate on a specific period of Munin Baruah's life, particularly starting from his first film, to provide a more in-depth exploration of his career. The initial portrayal of his early years seems superfluous and detracts from the core story.

Overall, Bhaimon Da is not a bad film, but it falls short of its potential due to its scattered focus and weak screenplay. A more concentrated narrative could have offered a more compelling tribute to Munin Baruah's legacy.
