Steve Coogan is one of my all-time favourite comedians but seriously this is awful... I kept watching hoping it'd improve but sadly an hour and a half of my life I won't get back.
So glad I didn't go see it live As I'd have probably ended up walking out.
It just drones on without the usual creativity and ironic humour associated with Partridge. Jokes were tired and the songs were pointless and seemingly just to fill in tine rather than add anything. The audience seemed just to be perplexed and a little embarrassed with some rather forced laughter usually at him swearing. Could have been brilliant but just tired and unoriginal.

It's nowhere near where it could be; writing is poor and spends far too much time shoehorning every possible stereotype into the storyline.
The initial flashback scenes were well done, but just overused to fill out episodes and attempt to add some nostalgia to what is a slow burn plot line.
The main problem is that they obviously weren't allowed to mention Hannibal Lector - that's pretty much hamstrung the project really... still, they soldier on with some interesting, if slow and usually predictable storylines.
I seriously doubt any of the writers have read the books, or if so, just ignored them. What's with the boss? The backstory has completely changed..?
This would be a fairly ok show if it wasn't meant to be SOTL..

It's a bit repetitive but lively and colourful.
Our 3 year old has started enjoying it.
My one major criticism is the forced caterwauling randomly strewn throughout the show.
Whoever thought liberally scattering a few bars of off tune folk music in would enhance the experience really needs to give their head a shake - absolutely awful.
