I finished watching this movie last night and I must say that I didn't enjoy it very much at all. The movie centers around two groups fighting to maintain the balance between light and dark. Daywatch does have a few very good special. The audio track and subtitles were available in English, Russian, and Spanish with my machine choosing Russian as the default for some unknown reason though that was easily adjusted. What little actual acting that I saw was good enough for a daytime soap opera, but that's being generous. The action sequences were few and far between but sadly the dialogue was continuous. I highly recommend that you stop watching it at the end of the first chapter if you choose to rent this movie. That's the peak of this long (in excess of two hours) and disappointing flick. To give you an idea of how bad this movie is, I rated it worse than "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and "Manos: The Hands of Fate".
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's destined to become one of those B-Grade cult classic sci-fi films that I love so much. That being said, my daughter asked if she could go in the lobby and play the video games at one point. The fight scenes were really well done and the graphics were down right amazing for the most part. You could really tell where the CGI ended and the models began in a few scenes though. The writing and script seemed to be very well done. Sadly, I'm sure that there are a few scenes on the editing room floor that would have helped the plot line. Backstory was provided in an enjoyable format so you don't have to know anything about the Korean folklore to understand the movie. The acting was above average for a film where the concepts were translated from Korean into U.S. concepts. There are a few things in the movie that we North American citizens probably just won't ever grasp very well. That's really just a gut feeling and I can't justify it. It was a thoroughly enjoyable film for a life-long science fiction and fantasy film.
I rented this movie last night and half expected to be disappointed, but I seldom give the professional reviewers any credit to begin with. The movie was an absolute delight and so was the leading actress. She has a good sense of comedic timing and shows it off in this movie. Most of the supporting cast was chosen well with a few exceptions. Sure, I'll agree there were a few slow parts where the one-liners weren't flying at one per minute; but overall the movie was a good laugh and had a good message. I'm not sure what the message was exactly, but I'm pretty sure there was one in there somewhere. The satire was thick and popped up frequently. They must have satired thirty movies throughout the show. I know I recognized at least a dozen and I don't watch that many romance or romantic comedy movies. This is definitely one to purchase (as soon as it hits the three for $10 shelf). It belongs right up there with the Scary Movie series and the apple pie movies.
