AFI's 100 Years 100 Songs was a great show to watch and sing along with. I did wish Travolta had a bigger part with more introductions, he did not even say anything about his personal entry of "Summer Nights" from "Grease". I was also expecting him to make comments on his idol of James Cagney and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" being his favorite film as a child. But having Bette Midler and Barbara Streisand making comments was so Awesome, they are amazing women who can sing and act. Liza Menelli would have been a great addition as well but her sister was great, but only commenting on mother Judy Garland. Of course one could have picked Judy Garland and "Over The Rainbow" as number one from the start but all the songs and comments from 100 to 1 was great fun to watch.
This is a great film, John and Sam are wonderful in it and seem to be having a great time doing it. Why do actors have to look like their in pain for it to be considered a good film. I felt the ending was not confusing but great. It is a film that makes you think and want to talk about with others. I liked that about Basic. Everyone should see for themselves.
Basic is a great film John and Sam are great. Of course having them together in more scenes would have been good but that would have been a give away for part of the mystery. A flash back for when Travolta was under Jackson could have been good. I thought that I was going to find Connie Nielson as irritating as Tea Leoni but she is not and she has an accent of her own being from Sweden or something like that. It is a must see movie, that has been a casualty of the war at the box office, like the canceled premiere. But this is not a war movie and has both pros and cons of the military. But people are afraid to see it. The critics are always tougher on action films then boring ones like The Hours or Far From Heaven that put most people asleep. Basic will be huge on video after the war is over and people will wish they saw it in theaters, the film will still make a profit and Travolta is not done making films. As far as the story some people didn't like the different takes on what happened but different people are telling their versions. If one would talk to a gang off the street about a drive-by shooting you would get multiple different stories. I found this not to be distracting at all but more truthful. Bottom line is the movie is great and everyone should see it. It is also not as offensive as The General's Daughter so I was able to take my 10 year old son who is a huge Travolta fan to see it. He Loved It especially the ending.
