Had I watched this film in March 2007 when it initially came out, I probably would not have understood it and given it a lower rating. On June 27, 2007, however, our family's world turned upside down with what would be -- or seem to be -- the unraveling of our closely knit extended family mainly through family member deaths. Having watched this film after that period, PLUS post-pandemia, I can tell you that this film is about GRIEF. Grief brings with it thousands of emotions; including regret and remorse for things we look back on in our relationships with those we've loved and lost. My view of death has changed considetably since 2007. I now try to live my life more mindful on how I treat others and try to make it a point to let people in my life know that I love and value them.
A lovely, sweet and poignant film that asks: Are we really victims of our times, and if so -- is it by choice -- or convenience -- or both? This film is a Romance-SciFi that also highlights the "Pendulum Effect" of change in human evolution; especially with regard to gender. Changes that some adapt to better than others. I thought the content of this film was relevant for our times; especially here in the USA where 70 million Americans appear to want to turn back the clock to an era that benefitted the few at the sacrifice of many -- but that's a much more complex story for another post.
FILM PROS: Great Acting and Dialogue FILM CONS: It could have better story development. I felt the film could have delved deeper into perceived notions of gender from 1966 to 2025, rather than bluntly end the film on a more "Novela" style romantic note.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and was really pleased to see the great Mexican actress, Ofelia Medina, back in the limelight.

Jerry Lewis was desperate to find comedic material in this film, and it shows: Think of those stupid "Beach Bikini" movies that tried really hard to be funny -- Ugh. This film is also a reminder of how far we've come socially, and how far back some people in the U. S. want to take us. While all characters in this film lack depth, the female roles are especially one-dimensional; just look pretty and regurgitate bland dialogue.
The ONLY redeeming quality in this film is the great Jazz soundtrack by American Trombonist, Harry Betts. Otherwise, make better use of your time -- like maybe go watch the paint dry somewhere.
