The concept of civic freedom does not quite fill out the role as the primary player in this film. Many top class actors and actresses of the time star in this film, but unfortunately it is still a hopelessly boring film.
The story is basically that of the road to democracy in Denmark. Political prisoners, the middle classes and the kings all contribute to the story, but it lacks passion and coherence. Capturing more than ten years of political turbulence within the time frame of a feature film and maintaining the main thread apparently failed the writers and the director of this film.

This is the film about being caught in a nightmare that never ends. Even a visit to an amusement park frightens the poor man to death. He lives in a world, where people no longer matter, the system is self-sustaining and dehumanising - an almost Kafkan universe. In that world suicide is no longer a taboo, actually people are making a living out of instructing people how to kill themselves. The only question that does not matter, is why people commit suicide, how they do it is so much more important. The setting of this film is important as to how frightening the film is, then usually you connect the setting with pleasant things, now everything is strangely different - and thus scary.
A brilliant bank-robbery performed in absentia. The robber is not even there, he is hospitalized with a broken leg. The one actually performing the robbery is a judge. This absurdity goes even further, the the planning of the robbery takes place in a hospital, where five men share a room. One of them is in deep trouble due to an unfortunate photograph taken in Paris.
The film balances on the edge of the unbelievable. Is it really possible that the police never notices? would a judge really participate in a bankrobbery. None the less, it is a hilarious film due to elegance of the performed coup.
