To list all the inaccuracies here would take up too much time. Most were inconsequential (the hunting scenes were no where in Pennsylvania. Snow capped peaks? The first 'deer' he shot was an elk). When Michael returns to Clariton he is in full uniform, with a beard! No way in hell, folks. We Vietnam Vets saw the many flaws vis-a-vis the war, but one thing the film got right is the camaraderie that forms between and among men who are put in such situations. You fight for the man next to you, not for some lofty political agenda. You feel his pain and his fear, because you live them yourself. So, strip away the Hollywood bunk and watch the film for the good things it gives.
There is a great difference between suspense and boredom. This show is so slow, plodding, and boring that it defies any logic. The first episode was interesting, because it laid open possibilities of things to come. It went slowly downhill from there. I was hoping the writers, director whomever would introduce more compelling nuances into the script to hold one's interest through the plodding, but I was disappointed. If the boring sequences were edited out, the series would last about an hour. The premise is interesting, but never fully developed. The cookie cutter characters are uninteresting. Unless you're a glutton for mundane punishment, avoid this series.
Billy Bob Thornton is an institution. He is perfect for this part. What I can't get around is why in the world did they cast a 20 something sex symbol to play his teenaged daughter? And why do they constantly insert uncomfortable sexual innuendo into the story? There is no need! The story stands on its own. The big oil story is compelling enough. The interaction between Billy Bob and his crews, the drug cartels et al is plenty to keep folks interested. The sexual exploitation intertwined in the plot is just stupid. It is a cheap trick to entice some folks to watch on when there is otherwise not much to watch. All 7 stars are for Billy Bob The rest is trash.
