#269 Mutant - 1984 (This Film Rates a B- ) This horror film follows brothers Josh and Mike as they vacation in the deep south countryside. After a bar room brawl Josh and Mike are saved by Sheriff Will. They spend the night at a local bed and breakfast. That night, Mike is attacked by something unknown and disappears beneath his bed. The next morning Josh goes into the deserted town and finds out so many people have the "flu". Josh meets Holly at an empty bar. She teaches and attends bar. Josh forgets about his brother and finds himself fighting for his life with a psycho. He escapes but another body with the strange yellow blood is found. The local "GP" had previously analyzed a "sample" found at a suspected murder scene. The sample was accidentally spilled and it "grew". The bodies continue to pile up but disappear and everyone thinks they are crazy. Josh eventually finds his brother and we learn that Sheriff Will was a DEI hire. The film's plot thickens as Josh discovers a connection between the local chemical plant, New Era, and the outbreak of a mysterious illness that turns people into mutant zombies. The film's climax features an explosive ending, although it's somewhat predictable and not so explosive. While the film's gore and effects are minimal, the cheap scares and silly dialogue often detract from the tension. The plot holes are numerous, and the love story subplot is awful and unconvincing. However, the soundtrack and effects are solid for a B-movie. The film is terrible for what it is but that isn't a bad thing. "What do you hunt? Anything that is running away"

#268 Coda - 1987 (This Film Rates a D+ ) This Australian-made TV film follows Kate Martin as she investigates the attempted murder of her neighbor, Anna, a music student who was violently thrown out of a window. Kate's ex-husband, Mike Martin, is the prime suspect, but as the investigation unfolds, a dark figure is revealed to be stalking Kate and her friend Sally. It also involves a too red of a lipstick wearing lesbian teacher who was the last to see Anna alive. She is really forward and creepy. The killer stalks Kate and Sally with a decent chase sequence and the police become convinced of an alternative suspect. The killer seems to be everywhere though there isn't a lot of killing. The film's suspenseful moments are notable, and the cinematography showcases some impressive artistic camera views. However, the storyline is too predictable, and the action is super limited. The final showdown starts strong but peters out in the end. Coda features a mostly female cast, which is a positive aspect, but the film's overall impact is weakened by its tame and superficial approach. The lack of gore and effects contributes to its final demise. Despite some suspenseful moments, the film's pacing issues and overlong filler sequences detract from its overall effectiveness. "I hate opera, they don't even use guitars."

#267 Nightwish - 1989 (This Film Rates a B- ) This sci-fi horror film follows a professor and four graduate students as they investigate paranormal activities in a secluded mountain house. The quirky group uses dreams and nightmares to tap into the supernatural, but their experiments take a dark turn. "I lost control of my dreams, my dream began to control me". A psychic alien entity tries to worm its way into view, but the group become too terrified to allow it to enter. As the story unfolds, the group's dynamics become increasingly tense, and the lines between reality and paranoia blur into nightmares and torture. The viewer is often confused! The professor's true intentions are unclear, but you know he is up to no good, and the group's trust in each other begins to fray. Were they there to investigate or where they lured for a great purpose? The film is full of glowing alien worms, hallucinations, psychic visions, violent nightmares, bugs, and ratshit craziness. The film's strength lies in its ability to create a sense of unease and uncertainty, with a twist ending that only adds to the confusion. But, I kind of liked it. While the special effects are decent, the gore scenes are limited. The soundtrack is a highlight, adding to the film's atmosphere. However, the acting and script are subpar at times, with some comedic moments feeling hit-or-miss. Despite its shortcomings, Nightwish has some intriguing ideas that just never materialize, and the storyline has moments that make it worth watching but it often times falls flat. There are fake animal death scenes which could upset some people. Reject your hallucination!
