The start of this show is so promising. It has a clever premise and I like most of the characters. It makes me laugh several times per episode. But the second half of season 1 makes me laugh significantly less.
And in general I prefer my comedies not to have much of the serious/nice parts. This show definitely does. Some of them succeeded in making me feel the emotion, but others felt more like Full House "awwww" moments.
I watched 3 episodes of season 2 and it wasn't making me laugh almost at all. So I decided to cut bait. I wish it made me laugh more. But I would say maybe it's just not for me. A little to nice for my tastes.
Season 1 - 6 stars.
Season 2 - 4 stars.

I'm assuming there will be a lot of angry reviews from people on one side or the other of the subjects in this movie. I assure you I'm not one of them. I'm more in the camp of being so sick of politics. If my friends are talking about it, I tune it out.
And during this movie, it took major effort to prevent myself from tuning out half the dialogue. It doesn't seem to take a side, satirizing everyone. But it was hard for me to care. I've already seen so many movies on these various topics. It just feels tired.
I was unbelievably bored for most of the runtime. And by the time the more intriguing stuff starts happening, I was basically checked out. I don't have issues with longer movies. I was fully glued to Ari Aster's previous movies Midsommar (2.5 hours) and Beau Is Afraid (3 hours). Eddington was just boring.
I can forgive one miss from this beast of a director. I look forward to his next movie.

That's an actual quote from the movie. It was the only comedic attempt that made me laugh, but only because it unintentionally made a meta comment about itself. The rest of the jokes are awful.
But we're not really here for the laughs. How about the slasher elements? There was one cool kill that made me grimace. The rest are nothings. NOTHINGS. They are so mild an uninventive. Half of them aren't even shown. Why was this movie rated R? They don't take advantage of the lack of limitations.
But by far the worst part is how unbelievably stupid it is. This is not hyperbole: it's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. The entire story is idiotic AND the characters reach never-before-seen levels of moronicity (didn't even know that's a word).
I know asinine character decisions are nothing new in slashers. But this takes it to another level. Everything they do is the worst thing they can do. They stand and watch, waiting to be killed. And they could do more if the movie didn't make up excuses for characters repeatedly not having a cell phone.
This movie is absolute garbage. I had to hold back my laughter several times. And at one point I actually squirmed in my seat because there was no way it could be so dumb.
