I was in the midst of a quite serious mental health issue so I went to the doctors and I said "Doctor, Doctor I feel like a pair of curtains"... He said "well I am a general practitioner and that sounds more like a mental health issue so pull yourself together". He did however recommend watching his favourite comedian Stewart Lee and I'm so glad he did because this brought me here.
As always there are very few belly laughs with Stewart's comedy, I don't think he did an actual joke, the self referential parts were so on point that it verged on cringy, the level of repetition from previous sets was obvious and seemingly below an artist of his standing and the audience participation stuff was a disaster. It was utter brilliance...no one ever comes away from watching Stewart Lee saying their belly ached...if you have seen him before (and he only wants those who have) you get the self reference and wait for it like a child at Christmas....the audience participation is completely improvised but made to look like it goes wrong so suggesting its deliberately rubbish and he plays off that because that's what he wants. The section where he described the fans who self satisfyingly believe they are geniuses because they like him is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. And I should know because I love Stewart Lee.....Stewart Lee.

I gave "The Acolyte" one star only because I couldn't give it zero. This show is a complete travesty, an utter failure in every possible aspect. The writing is lazy and uninspired, filled with cringeworthy dialogue that sounds like it was penned by a teenager trying too hard to be edgy. The plot, if you can even call it that, is a nonsensical mess that drags on and on without any real direction or purpose.
The characters are flat and uninteresting, and the acting is so wooden that I found myself wondering if they cast actual trees. Special mention goes to the CGI, which looks like it was pulled straight from a bad 90s video game. It's laughably bad and completely takes you out of any immersion the show might have managed to scrape together.
Moreover, the show seems to be more interested in pushing a clumsy, heavy-handed agenda than in telling a good story. Every scene is dripping with forced political messages that feel out of place and obnoxious.
I was so disappointed by this show that I've cancelled my Disney+ subscription. Save your time and money, and steer clear of "The Acolyte." It's not just bad; it's an insult to the Star Wars franchise and to viewers everywhere.

I must stop watching the YouTube critics because this really wasn't as world endingly bad as they were making out. Dakota Fanning was quite low energy throughout but the rest of the cast and in particular the three girls had a really enjoyable dynamic between them. A lot of the questions which were highlighted by the critics as ridiculous plot lines did seem to have a reasonable explanation by the end of the movie and it genuinely kept my interest until the end. Yes there were the potentially unnecessary Ben/Peter Parker member berries, the bad guy was as wooden as a tree and the lack of any real superhero action in a superhero flick was a bit weird but I have seen far worse movies than this which haven't got half the panning this has. I'm guessing there won't be a sequel if the box office tanks but I would have liked to have seen these characters progress.
