I just saw this movie on Showtime last night and found it interesting (not good or bad, just interesting). I became a fan of Elizabeth Rohm from watching endless reruns of Law and Order on TNT. So when I read that she was starring in this movie I had to see it. Rohm, I thought, gave a very good performance of a woman hanging on to her sanity. Was she seeing ghosts or was it all in her mind. The rest of the cast should have taken acting lessons, or just watch Rohm and they would have gotten it right. Roma Maffia is a better actress (see Nip/Tuck) than her performance in this movie. Overall, if you have nothing else to do watch this just for Rohm's acting. I hope producers will use her talents wisely in the future and not let her just fade away like many other good, now forgotten, actors have.
I recently went to see this "dog" of a movie and I found it to be very slow moving and even boring at times. I guess when you see the trailer for this film you are expecting a little romantic comedy, when actually the film is about obsession with a tiny little bit of romance thrown in. Being that this film was from the writer of School of Rock, Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl, (all three excellent films within themselves), you would expect Year of the Dog to follow suit. Problem is, it doesn't. The last film Mike White did was the horrid Nacho Libre, so he may be starting his downward trend of making bad Hollywood films. Molly Shannon on the other hand was brilliant. She tries very hard to breathe life into her poorly written and confused character Peggy. It's to bad that Hollywood hasn't embraced her talents instead of wasting them. If you do want to see this film, wait till it comes to the Dollar movie house or try and get it on a two for one rental at your local video rental store.
This (waste of) film is so bad it's not even worth commenting on. I wasted money on this trash cause I had some hope that it might actually be worth seeing, given the fact that the beautiful and talented Amy Smart was co-starring. suffice to say I thought "Domino" was one of the worst movies recently made until I saw this piece of s**t. Domino is a masterpiece compared to this film.
The scene in Chinatown, don't worry I won't give away the plot point here, (not that there is any plot to give away), is by far the most ridiculous scene I had ever seen. Oh, and that ending, I didn't know helicopters could climb that high in a matter of seconds. If you saw the film you know what I mean.
When will Hollywood wake up and realize all their so called creative talent has left the building.
