Ok, ok, so I may be biased because DBZ may be one of my favorite shows of all time, and if not my favorite Anime`- EVER! But who cares? I love this show. And I loved Dragon Ball (although I must say that the American dub of Dragon Ball is for more of the 11-under crowd if you ask me) Now, allow me to tell you my testimony of how I came to love the Dragon Ball series....
When I was in Kindergarten-first grade or so, I saw my first episode of Dragon Ball. I was sick and home from school, and it was airing on Fox Kids I believe. It came on after Bannana's in Pajamas. (God save my soul, I hated that show.) Well, I've been one who has followed and practiced Martial Arts my whole life, and since I was a huge fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and since I was sick in bed) I decided to watch Dragon Ball. I laughed, and smiled, and of course enjoyed it. I can't tell you exactly what I remember, Master Roshi and his island come to mind at best. Well, over the years I skipped through the episodes, never exactly becoming "hooked" and die hard. That wouldn't be for another few good years. In 5th grade, my friends were Role Playing Dragon Ball Z during recess (it had just started to air around that time.) Of course, I wanted to role play with them, but didn't know-or remember- any female characters. They had me play as Bulma. All that came to mind was blue hair (and one of my friends complained of me playing Bulma because they had to play Yamucha. Go figure) Years still went by and it wasn't until around the 6th grade did I start watching. Over the summer I'd be wtaching Frieza or Garlic Jr. reruns, and my younger cousin and his friend would make fun of the show. (I tell you now: DBZ isn't just about people screaming at the top of their lugs with beyond steroid possible muscles and beams of light shooting from their bodies.) And when the time came of the Android/Cell saga, I WAS OFFICIALLY HOOKED!!!!!! DBZ is the first show I've come to obsess over, and even though I am a 15 y/o female, I don't care. If fighting and mountains blowing up appeals to me, then too bad!!!!!! DBZ ROCKS!!!
P.S: Like I said in my above comment about screaming and muscles and lights, it is beyond that. The show talks a lot about courage, friendship, and loyalty. Though the American edited version may not be AS good as the Japanese version, I still find it great. And it may take a while to understand the principles of DBZ if you start watching in the middle of a saga, but keep watching- it may take time (like me.)
Akira Toriyama has definitely created a classic.

Let me tell you, when I started my Freshmen year of Highschool this year, and found out that the first play we were reading was Romeo + Juliet, I moaned and groaned and nearly chewed up my pencil in annoyance. Sure, I found the play compelling, and I knew exactly what it was about, but Old English text really annoys me. Well, we finally finish the story, watch a fairly good 16th century version of the R+J play, and then....MODERN DAY VERSION!!!!! (yes, we watched this movie in my 4th period English class)
Ever since I was 9 and this movie came out I've wanted to see it. Just never the chances. I've always passed it in the video stores, but still didn't pick it up. But now here's the chance. From the very beginning everyone (even the guys) was hooked on the film. We knew exactly what would happen. But still we were anxious to watch on. Even though it's still hard to understand a little bit because of the Old English talk, it's not that hard to follow. The play had me rolling with laughter, watching with a complete blank expression anticipating the next scene, or flowing with tears. It was great. The beginning had to be my favorite scene, and the Capulet party.
Although I do wish it had a modern script that way it was easier to understand, but it doesn't really take away the entire flavor. What counts is I LOVE (LOVE!) this movie!!! I have to get it on DVD. The actors do an amazing job- Tybalt and Mercutio are my favorites in this movie. It would be awesome if another R+J adaption was made (with a modern script please).

Let me tell you, I hate teen movies. I hate them, hate them, HATE THEM!!!! All the characters seem to only see their future at the latest keg party, love to get high, get knocked up, and for the most part, screw up their entire lives. And you know what? I AM A TEENAGER! But let me put it this way....Ferris Bueller's is the king of not only 'teen movies' but of all Comedy's!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off came out a year before I was born. Though I don't necessarily care for a ton of 80's movies for the fact that all the huge hair and cheesy teenage love stories annoy me, but this movie has got to be one of my all-time favorites.
I distinctively remember the first time my mom and I rented Ferris Buellers Day off together. I think I was 5...and I loved every Matthew Broderick movie I had seen (and still do...with the exception of The Cable Guy...that movie was a brick) So, naturally, I knew I was going to like this one...
Within 2 minutes of the movie I was laughing so hard I was crying. And not only that, I realized it was a movie that was made in an era that I was not at all too familiar with. But I didn't care, all I knew was that I loved the movie. And of course...I STILL DO!!!!
Now here I am, a high school Freshman, and I've heard tons of adults tell me to remember my highschool years, because they are some of the best years of your life. Well, I'm starting to feel that. And not only am I now gaining good memories from high school, but good memories from a great movie, that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
