There's no denying that Im not really the intended audience for this. I was a fan of Akira, and some of the older japanese style animation. And love cowboy bebop. I guess this cant be called japanese given it is k-pop.
But while I tolerated Cowboy bebop's foray into exagerated expressions, I dont love this style of popcorn eyes and adults devolving into children during periods of extreme expressiveness. And they really poor this on at the beginning, making it feel frantic rather than fast paced and engaging. It really turned me off to the point that I fast forwarded through a portion of the beginning. Thankfully it settles down half way through.
So as I say, Im already not the audience, and would normally give a show like this a 5 or lower. But I dont in this case....
Where this show is saved is in the vocals and the final message. I really liked the double sided nature message, and that real strength can be built on being our true selves. I think that is a good message for young girls. Although I think in this case, it may be lost on them, and this message will mainly be picked up by adults. But adults can use a dose of this as well. So I feel this saved the movie. And I liked the message of rebuilding through trueness to ourselves, rather than the more fragile strength built on the false concept of perfection that no one can truly live up to.
I understand the very high ratings for this from other reviewers since they are more the intended audience for the anime, and there is some strong messaging here. I do however agree with another reviewer that they could have developed characters a bit better, especially the backstory of the main character. And maybe even her sidekicks. That might have pushed it to a 7 for me.
Im glad I gave it a chance despite it not being intended for me.

I can see justification for anyone scoring this between 4 to 8 stars. Outside of that range are people maybe prone to hyperbole.
If you're okay with a whole bunch of snapshots of the bombing raid experience strung together, you'll like it. If you're expecting a cohesive dramatic narrative, you'll likely find it tedious.
If you're looking for stellar performances from the leads, you'll likely be disappointed. The acting was competent, but nothing great. George was somewhat vacuous and likely the weakest point of this movie. But he also wasnt a bad actor. Surprisingly, the best performances may have come from the supporting cast rather than the leads. There were some very good performances from the people George meets on the way.
So depending on what type of movie you're hoping for, you may be fine with this or disappointed. I wonder if there could have been a more powerful narrative in this tale of small encounters. Maybe the formats just don't meld.
In any case, I give a somewhat reluctant 7 since I can see peoples viewpoints on both the mid and low ends of the scale. I only give as high as a 7 for the supporting cast and because I think I understand what they were trying to accomplish. I just think they could have managed it better with some more talent behind the camera, but I honestly dont know how. It's a difficult format trying to string together a sequence of experiences and still tell an engaging story.

Season 5 was by far the weakest season, but there were a few gem episodes within the season.
This was a decent episode, but such an uncelebratory way to end the series. At least Andy Kaufman had a few good scenes.
Shame NBC couldnt figure it out after taking over the series from cbs (abc?). Slime move for the head of cbs to cancel this series out of spite.
Repeat for IMDB Season 5 was by far the weakest season, but there were a few gem episodes within the season.
