Having seen the previous movies made based on H G Wells classic book, i would say this is on a par with those if not better and uses many scenes from the original movies(obviously recreated) such as the scene with the clothing shop window dummies changing through the various styles depending how far he goes and the general look of the time machine as well as the world changing around him as he goes forward again obviously using new technology this looks brilliant.
In this remake Guy Pearce takes the lead role and delivers well.On the night he is going to propose to his fiancee she is killed by a mugger and he thinks that he can fix this by travelling back and changing the past, but after this proves wrong he decides to travel forward in time in search of answers but again finds little in the way of comfort until an accident in the future knocks him out and thrusts him forward until his time machine basically runs out of digits where he is found by the people of the time and told of the problems which came before them.At this point in the film pearce goes from a morner to a sort of action hero and when the 2nd species emerge from underground he takes it upon himself to try and help and when one of the people is caught he goes in search of her and is confronted by the controller of the morlocks (jeremy irons) who plays his role to perfection as always and is given the chance to return to his own time and forget what has seen.It is at this point in the movie where pearce believes he has no future in his own time and makes the sacrifice by destroying his time machine to start a new life in the future which as you would expect all works out in end. The end sequence is a tear jerker as pearces house keeper accepts that he isnt coming back and leaves for a new job with his best friend, the accompanying soundtrack is perfect and well crafted and ever musical section fits the scene it represents.
A great film, although many people have said its a mess and a waste of space thats their opinion and not mine so :P

Two great comedians, a funny script & john hughes a receipe for success.Steve Martin(the big executive) & John Candy(shower curtain ring sales man) complement each other brilliantly in an odd couple/laurel & hardy kind of ordeal which just goes from one laughter fit to another (most notably steve martins f-ing fit at the rental car female).
Although it does have its touching sides the part where Martin leaves Candy at the train station to get his train home to his wife Martin boards his train then realises something didnt seem right & returns to find Candy still sat in the station & admits to Martin that his wife has passed away.I think thats probably when the laughter stops for me.
A great film worth watching every time it comes around on tv(although its usually edited & its not quite the same!).I think it could be considered a classic in many ways the performance from both main stars it classic its just a shame John Candys no longer with us.

Having just watched this supposed "scariest movie of the last 10 years" i was left thinking why did the makers bother wasting their time making it and making us waste our time and money going to see this, it pure tripe! and thats being nice as well.
A guy and a girl in a car travelling down an empty road (shot so you can see whats coming behind them just in case) then all of a sudden a big vehicle tries to run them off the road (oh dear god no!). Mmmmmmm somebody with a bad number plate in an armoured type vehicle with road rage tendencies following round this car and the driver isnt known (well at least until later at least in this movie).
I couldnt put my finger on it at the time but now i realise its a straight cut and shut job of that old Spielberg movie "Duel" from the late 70's, the one where a guy is being chased across desert roads by an armoured car and he never gets to see who the driver is! Now that was a good movie and much better than this dross fest.
I think there was two creepy bits in this movie for me (note them here 2! and not scary either as the lovely sloogan would try and make me believe!)Number one came when they saw the truck parked the sight of a figure dumping a body down a big hole and him just standing there and looking as they went past to me was a bit creepy. Number two came when the lad found the room of bodies plastered to the ceiling that was pretty creepy and weird as well but that was it!
If you have the best part of two hours to waste on an afternoon or evening, dont waste it watching this, you will regret it and wonder why you didnt just put on a friends video, i wish i had!
