This is a very remarkable documentary movie. A large group of underprivileged kids and teens is brought together in a dancing project. They are to dance to Sacre du Printemps by Stravinsky, not the easiest music anyway. Most of them had never before been to a classical concert. Now they will dance accompanied by the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra. In the first week one doesn´t really believe that this will work well. Some kids find it hard, some even almost unbearable. However, they keep track. The dancing teacher, Royston, speaks their language, because he himself worked his way up from a very difficult social environment. Sometimes his tone is rough, almost rude, but at the same time he transports the aura of a firm belief in these kids. The result is amazing and very touching. The project is a huge success. And you can see the joy in the eyes of children who were never praised or applauded to before, and what it means to them to have achieved all this. Go see it! You´d be sorry if you missed it.
This warmhearted and for start quiet movie about an old farm labourer shows us that life can for long time be quite dull and - even at the end of a life span - be sparked by a small incident and set off to another horizon. This is lovely and so utterly optimistic, it warms the viewers heart. If you get the chance, go see it.
This is an wholly Inuit movie about an old Inuit legend, dealing with power, jealousy, revenge and forgiving. The Inuit language sounds unfamiliar and adds to the strange atmosphere, so that the viewer becomes part of a world he oder she doesn´t usually have access to. And no documentary about the Inuit could possibly create this atmosphere. The movie is best in its differences to the movies and stories we all are more used to. Go see it, but make sure, you visit on of the informing websites beforehand. If you study the underlying legend by detail you won´t feel lost the first 60 minutes.
