7.5 imdb rating at the time of writing, and I have only one question... how?
I've never seen the original and was enticed to watch this from the trailer.
Quite possibly one of the worst films i've seen in quite a while, and that's saying something.
I found it incredibly boring, found it hard to stay engaged and had to watch it over 2 nights. I watched the first half hoping it was just a slow burner and it would pick up a bit in the second half of the film... Spoiler alert: it didn't!
It was like Bram Stokers Dracula from Wish, practically the same storyline, not as good, but the cinematography was better due to being a more modern film.
One positive, I thought Lily Rose-Depps performance was decent, despite some of the reviews i'd seen on here...
On reflection, I wish I gave this a miss. Shame.

I've seen so many A-Z list Werewolf movies, trying to find that hidden gem, as they're my favourite Mythological animal. When I heard this was coming out, I was actually very excited, looking forward to seeing the best of what modern technology has to offer.
Having watched the trailers, my excitement didn't wane any, as they didn't give too much away. So here I was, booking my tickets for opening night a week in advance, looking forward to the movie all week, thinking "I wonder if they'll do anything different, any new ideas!?" trying to go in with an open mind.
Now I am writing this after just returning home from the Cinema and i'm just sitting here like "meh", so close. The Movie had some great novel ideas, and I absolutely love practical effects, in-fact, it was my main thought going in "I hope they don't use too much CGI" , they got that part pretty much spot on.
The Movie itself however lacked pretty much any story of any kind, had so many plot holes. Apart from the reminiscing segment at the beginning, at least half of the movie could have been left in the editing room, where it belonged, it added nothing to the story. After the start, it was fairly obvious who our furry friend was going to be, I called it right away.
Our 1st proper introduction to the Wolf Man, however, at the Farm, I thought to myself, they could have called it "Monkey Man" as it resembled a Gorilla from Planet of the Apes, the way it moved along the ground. I liked the fact they tried something new without the standard mythology surrounding the subject matter, but at the same time, felt it lacked it. The Close-up shots I really liked, it was from the same Werewolf type as "1961 The curse of the Werewolf" and it done a better job of it than "2010 The Wolfman" by using far less CGI... A lot of films of this genre tend to overlook the "Man" part of "Wolf Man" and end up looking like Bears, Big Cats or go too far to the "Wolf" side. This Werewolf type is undoubtedly my personal favourite.
Overall, it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good either. Apart from the beginning, the 1st half of the film was so dark and boring it lost me and I started looking at my phone. Loved the practical effects, but left the Cinema feeling like I was waiting on the 2nd half of the Movie to begin when the credits rolled. Half the theatre was like that too, still sat in their seats like they were waiting on an end sequence like a Marvel movie. Maybe there was, I didn't quite make it that far before I left.
Final thoughts, loved the use of practical effects, but the movie needed a lot more depth for me.. solid 6.0/10 for trying though, wouldn't say it's up there with the best the genre has to offer. I will watch it again at home, as this definitely comes across as a Movie that needs a second viewing, maybe i'll change my opinion.

I was really put off this movie due to the rating, and most of the reviews I read on here, but I was bored and decided to give it a go anyway.
I was pleasantly surprised, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It keeps you guessing throughout and has some decent horror scenes in it. Now, an Evil Dead this is not, but if you can enjoy a horror film without the need for gore, then give this a chance.
I thought this was really similar to "Knock at the Cabin" more psychological, it keeps you thinking and guessing all the way throughout and I actually quite enjoyed it.
Halle Berry's performance was great, so was the 2 young lads, their performances didn't feel forced.
I don't usually leave reviews, I usually only leave ratings, but felt I had to defend it due to some of the poor scores it's received. Give it a chance and don't let the misleading ratings put you off. It might be for you, it might not be, but it's nowhere near as bad as some of the scores would suggest. 7/10 for me.
