When a movie gets this many low ratings you have to question it. I watch a lot of films and I've seen some terrible ones in my time but this isn't one of them. Watching it again I realise the scores are not actually about the movie itself, and I suspect it's an example of people struggling with females (some who dare to not be skinny) leading the whole film. It's not trying to overachieve. It's a superhero film, with more intelligence than some of the others out there. It's got some fun moments, some expected silliness and, as always, the chemistry between McCarthy and Bateman is fantastic. Shame the weak misogynists can't handle it, but not really surprised. If you're a fan of superheroes or any of the awesome cast I recommend it, just as long as you don't freak out when women are centre stage and in a positive light. You have been warned ;)
I understand some of the reviews about cheesy script but what you do have is some good acting, and an enter story; and who doesn't want to see Queen Latifah kick some tush?
I thought that as a family they had a great dynamic. It felt like a usual family who loved each other and drove them crazy at the same time.
The story does have some elements of predictability but that doesn't stop it being entertaining. It's probably the script that lets it down the most but cast do what they can with it.
It's more of a not sure what to watch and don't want anything that's too much mental effort kind of film but if yo.

I didn't have high expectations as not personally a big Agatha Christie fan (nothing wrong with Christie, just not my usual cuppa).
The setting in Venice already engaged me with the striking sets perfect for creating a striking yet foreboding atmosphere, but it was the amazing cast that drew me in. They were well balanced, extremely talented and all had their own demons.
Brannaghs accents seemed a little wobbly at times..I'm sure he sounded more like 'Inigo Montoya' than a Frenchman at times but I can happily forgive when everything else was so beautifully done.
I look forward to the next but not sure how they can do better than that cast.
