In the Can with JR Digs

  • Belongs in the "Can" that you Flush

J.R. Digs is awful, I'm still trying to figure out if he has photographic evidence that the owner of Global TV murdered a child, or if he is that person's son, or if he has mob connections, or if he simply has a gun that he threatens the people at Global TV with. Those are the only possible explanations I can come up with for why this man was allowed to go on TV with his "show" that he clearly pays ad time to air on their station. The single Coors Light ad I saw during tonight's typically terrible episode can not have paid for the airing of this half hour "show" by itself so perhaps J.R. Digs is one of those born wealthy individuals who has nothing better to waste his money on than air time so he can make this pitiful attempt at producing his own "TV show". I use quotes because this "show" clearly does not qualify as a real television program. The writing is terrible and he is a worse host than a bag of potatoes would be. Tonight's episode can be summed up like this--terrible host does terrible jokes, bad special effects of them driving around in cars and their van that they hope will be seen as funny but that is actually just clearly showing they can only make terrible visual effects--talk to a man on the street who clearly wants them to leave him alone with no funny results at all--put on a sailor hat that the host obviously thinks makes him automatically funny and sing a song for the "studio audience" about how he talked to a kid selling meat, then show video clip of him standing in meat section of a grocery store next to an unimpressed student employee, add in sound effects of JR Digs farting, back to sailor hat wearing JR Digs for no funny remarks, studio audience shows no indication they have actually watched the video or have a pulse--more bad effects of a "van crash"--jokes all fall flat just like every comment the useless host makes. This show is garbage, hopefully soon he runs out of money so he can't ever air this travesty on TV again.

    The JR DIGS Show

  • This High School Student Video Project Should Not be on TV

This show is just awful and I seriously believe that the only way it could be on TV is if JR Digs is buying this air time from Global TV in order to make his own show. They have Coors Light as an advertiser but there weren't any other ads that I saw during the episode tonight so it really looks to me like they got Coors Light to either cover completely or to at least help them pay to buy this air time. It would also explain why this show is on so late at night around other paid-for-advertising "programs" not to mention how a show like this could get on the air at all. The quality of the show is awful, they use bad effects in a desperate attempt to be funny but it just makes it more obvious how poorly written and produced this "show" is. I can't believe it's on the air again and can only hope that Coors Light wakes up and stops paying for this crap to be aired on TV, JR Digs is one of the worst hosts and "shows" I have ever seen. Nothing good or funny about this show, just one guy's painfully bad attempt to have his own show that he somehow--possibly at gunpoint?--got somebody to actually put on TV.

  • Hella Lame

This show is lame, but that can be said of every comedy on CBC in the last few years with the exception of the return of The Kids In The Hall for their miniseries Death Comes To Town which was quite good. Not so good as the original Kids In The Hall series but still very good.

It is impossible to watch Rick Mercer's Show and not compare it to This Hour Has 22 Minutes because Rick Mercer is so synonymous with that show after starring in it for so many years. He was phenomenal on that show but I would agree with the other posters he is definitely 100% coasting on the Mercer Show. The jokes are very lame. The bits are all Rick Mercer talking to the camera directly and none of it is particularly cutting or funny. I feel Rick Mercer just mellowed or something as he got older. The only pieces he still does on his show that he used to do at This Hour Has 22 Minutes are the street pieces in black and white where he walks at the backwards moving camera ranting about a political issue and those are still good but few and short and far between.

Compared to the other CBC comedy turds out there now (Ron James Show, Royal Canadian Air Farce who keep coming back for specials, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Little Mosque On The Prairie and more) Rick Mercer is okay but compared to the shows offered on other channels this show is just a snoozefest. CBC needs a house cleaning.
