This movie has what I have wanted to see since "A Shot in The Dark". The role of Charles Dreyfus expanded. While I freely admit that Peter Sellers is one of the greatest comic talents there is, I also have to admit that I also watch the movies to see Herbert Lom as Dreyfus. The scenes between Sellers and Lom are absolutely brilliant, and terrific to watch. The pair play off each other beautifully. (See the scene with them and the laughing gas, and the scene with them at the beginning)Instead of leaving the Dreyfus role in the sidelines, Blake Edwards turns the role into the bad guy of the movie. And instead of having Dreyfus go slowly mad during the movie, Blake Edwards lets Lom go completely over the top. (Which is absolutely hilarious!) Drefus is completely crazy almost from the start.(and he is the best bad guy in the Pink Panther series). The basic plot is this. After spending three years in an asylum to cure him of his desire to kill Clouseau, Charles Drefus has been declared sane by his psychiatrist, and he is going before a review board to be released. However, before this happens, Clouseau comes to wish him well. To make a long story short, Dreyfus is sent completely over the edge by the visit. He escapes from the asylum, kidnaps a scientist and his daughter, and forces the scientist to build him a doomsday device. Meanwhile, Clouseau is put on the case of the kidnapped scientist. Dreyfus then makes his demand. He doesn't want much. all he wants is Clouseau exterminated! This movie features all the regulars from the series, including Burt Kwouk, Graham Stark, And Andre Marriane. Watch it for them, watch it for the hilarious story, but especially watch it for the wonderful comedy talents of Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom! 10 out of 10
