I have seen this movie at the Toronto International Film Festival. It first caught my interest because I thought it will be similar to Vertical Limit. Well, I was wrong. It's much much better than Vertical Limit. This movie is categorized as Docu-Drama. Which I think made it more effective. I can't imagine how the viewer can be enthralled to the horror of what Joe Simpson is going through if it's not done in part dramatization and part interview/narration.
It's a rescue and survival movie without help of any helicopter or rescue team. Joe ordeal in overcoming what is evidently insurmountable obstacle. Bringing the movie goer along with Joe spiralling down to hopelessnes and impending death. It's based on true story but the story beats fictional movies.

After reading the comments. It would make you think that this movie is horrible. But it is not. It might not be a great movie, but overall it is not bad. And it did not strike me as being a pro-war movie. On the contrary, it shows the perils of war. But unlike Band of Brothers which gives you personality for different characters, this movie's focus is mainly on Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) and Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach).
I say made for movie because the phrase made for tv might be construed as mediocre. But every episode of Band of Brothers would have been good in movie except nobody can sit for 10 hours. It is a more in-depth Saving Private Ryan. It is war up close and personal.
