This is a sweet, poetic movie which at the same time is hilarious! James Stewart shines as Elwood P. Dowd who is always accompanied by his best friend Harvey, a 6 foot rabbit that is invisible to (almost) everybody else, and Josephine Hull is a scream as his poor, tormented older sister, Veta.

The story says a lot about imagination, kindness, miracles, and friendship, while simultaneously making you laugh out loud at the crazy characters inhabiting the town where it all takes place.

Favourite scene: While everybody else is running around trying to figure out what is going on, Elwood literally stops to smell the flowers. :-)

Favourite quote: "I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, 'Good evening, Mr. Dowd'. Well, I turned around, and here was this big 6 foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp post. I thought nothing of that, because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name."

Don't miss this movie, because it is sure to leave a smile on your face and warmth in your heart :-). This is a true classic in every way.

I've always found Plympton's animations intriguing (and at times a bit disgusting, but I mean that in the nicest possible way). I agree with other reviewers on this page that Plympton's style may not be too well-suited for a full-length movie, as I was quite bored at regular intervals. However, if you're into his style and sense of humour (which means that you don't mind gratuitous violence and sex scenes) you should get a kick out of this one. I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times (for instance, at the sex/balloon animals scene), and any movie that makes you do that deserves a pat on the back :).

Life is really too short for movies like this. I knew it couldn't be good when I realized what I'd already suspected - that David Schwimmer would be playing the exact same type of person he plays in 'Friends'.

Let's face it, either the guy can't play anything but a nerd or he is never offered any other parts. I have a feeling that it's a mixture of both.

And I have to say that it is extremely difficult to like a movie that utterly wastes the considerable talents of Gwyneth Paltrow, Barbara Hershey, Toni Collette and Carol Kane!!!
