I saw this movie once about 17 years ago, and have been wanting to buy a copy of the video ever since. Judy Davis & Bryan Brown give outstanding performances. In summary, a drama about a man's search for a woman he thinks he loves and wants to help.
I have seen this movie probably 100 times. It is my all-time favourite movie. I liked it so much I bought the video. I play it everytime I'm feeling depressed :-) Why is it so good? Because of the exceptional acting; perfect tragi-comic script by the Wilder & Diamond duo; great supporting actors; tight direction; and zany-ness of it all
In the late 50s, Tony Curtis was a horny young man about Hollywood, and according to his autobiography was the model for The Apartment. He was married but having an affair, and using a friend's apartment for his assignations.
It is worth watching for Shirley MacLaine's performance alone. It is one of her first adult roles, and she is funny, cute & beguiling.
Rated out of ten, I'd give it 10.

I have seen this movie a number of times. Why? Because it's great. Monroe (even though she can't sing) turns on a dazzling performance. Curtis & Lemmon are also outstanding in their performances. But the acting would be nothing without an enormously hilarious script from Diamond & Wilder. The direction is worth a mention too; it is tight, snappy and the movie runs apace without a dull spot. Wilder is at his best as producer. Laugh? I nearly died :-)
